Why We Should All Object

Destroying a large Devon forest and building a mega quarry within metres of homes is a truly ludicrous idea for these reasons.

Our Forests Need Protecting

This is the last large area of forest for miles around, with over 60 football pitches worth of large mature oak and native broadleaf forests. We need trees for oxygen and so much more.

Last Sanctuary for Wildlife

Home to a huge amount of wildlife including "big wings" the buzzard, many red deer, badgers, foxes and owls. Plus, protected species such as sand martins, bats, and of course hundreds of huge carp in the fishing ponds.

Toxic Dust in Our Lungs

Clay quarrying kicks up large amounts of silica dust, these tiny invisible particles damage and scar the lungs, causing asthma in children, COPD and even cancer.

Noise Pollution

Sibelco's own planning documents propose an additional 30 HGV trips per day, labouring in and out of the pit. Along with bulldozers and diggers, working 6 days a week 12 hours a day, the peace will be ruined.

Flooding Risks

Every mature tree is like a sponge for rain water. Cutting down such a huge area of forest will inevitably make flooding worse.

Pollution of the River Teign

The plans submitted would raise the River Teign onto a ridge for a kilometre or more, with deep clay pits on each side. Sibelco already pumps tons of waste water into the river, and a new mega quarry will inevitably pollute the river even more.
