Temporary Tree Protection Order (TPO) Granted on the Forest

Now we need all residents to write to Teignbridge Council supporting the TPO

Good news! Teignbridge District Council has placed a temporary Tree Preservation Order (TPO) over the entire Zitherixon riverside woodland, from the Rugby Pitches and Lakes through to Broadway Road and the Northern woodland by the river.

This gives our community a brief window to show overwhelming public support before the Council decides whether to make the protection permanent.

But this protection will expire in 90 days, and we need hundreds of local voices write in support, to counter Sibelco’s strong objections to protecting the trees.

Save Our Trees has submitted a letter of support for the TPO and also published a full aerial video site survey as part of our evidence, in support of this TPO

🤩 Everything we do is driven by your donations, please dig deep and support the campaign. Thank you 🌳

✍️ What to say in your message

Make it personal. The Council needs to hear what these trees mean to you.
You could write about things like:

  • Do you see these trees from your home or daily drive?
  • Do you walk, fish or play rugby beside them and enjoy the peace they give?
  • Would you be sad or angry to lose the last green barrier between your community and heavy industry?
  • Are you worried about more flooding if the woodland is cut down?
  • Do you feel that protecting mature trees is essential for clean air, wildlife, and local wellbeing?

Finish by asking the Council to confirm the TPO in full, to safeguard the woodland permanently.

Every email makes a difference, the more individual, heartfelt letters received, the stronger our collective case becomes.

Please write today, and forward this message to friends, family, and teammates.

Thank you for standing up for our trees. 🌳

The whole family can write to the Council

Our children are writing letters too, including their feelings about cutting down the trees. All objections are valuable. We will submit a letter each from our family.
